Darfur remains one of the most tragic abuses happening to mankind today. Amnesty International needed a way to show evidence of the atrocities happening to get the international community engaged. Our solution was Eyes on Darfur – a microsite that uses satellite imagery to show evidence of genocide in Darfur, Sudan. We took commercially available satellite footage and matched up before and after images to discover that whole sections of villages were being wiped out, huts were bombed and countless people were displaced. As viewers at home watch the site, they too can become an international watchdog community for villages that remain at risk. While many websites measure success with page views and units sold, Eye’s helped the UN in their decision to send 10,000 peacekeeping troops to protect the people in Darfur.
